What is Soup Troop?

Soup Troop or what is sometimes called "The Soup Run," is a group of volunteers that gather at the church hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 11:00 a.m. They gather up the soup container, cups, crackers and ladles and head off to the Galilee Mission to pick up the freshly made soup from Chef Collin. Then it's off to the docks in Galilee to distribute the soup to hungry fishermen and the workers at the fish plant. Then it's back to the church hall by 1:00.

It is as simple as that! Just two hours out of the day!

There are two ways to volunteer:

Summer Volunteers Are Needed!

June 6, 2009: We have had steady and solid help in bringing soup to the docks over the past year. Many of our church members have braved cold rain and whipping winds to stand out there on the docks and ensure the soup was distributed to many in need. In some cases, this soup was the one hot meal many had that day. As we approach the summer months, the soup duty continues on; the weather will certainly be more pleasant; BUT we would like to recruit some summer helpers -- perhaps high school or college students who can commit to one three-hour assignment per month. The training program is easy and you get to meet many interesting people. Please contact Ken Cahill.

Sponsored by The Seaman's Church Institute, the Galilee Mission, and St. John's to provide the hungry workers at the docks and fish plant in Galilee, with a hot cup of soup and a smile!

Your help is greatly appreciated.
