Dear Friends,
We write this letter of progress with enthusiasm and great gratitude.
These have been productive days, all thanks to your caring support,
generous contributions, and prayers.
Renovation of the vicarage is complete and we are happy to report
that it is rented for one year with a monthly income of $1,500.
We've moved everything to the main church building. The music room
off the parish hall has been painted and outfitted as our new office
-- small but extremely efficient. The kitchen has become a multi-purpose
room with storage for music, bell ringer equipment and soup troop
needs. Not perfect but it works!
Our Sunday School is up and running on a bi-weekly basis with a
small but growing group of pre-school/kindergarten children and
a great group of middle and high school students. The energy, enthusiasm
and spirit the children and their parents have for the programs
are contagious. It's been very rewarding. Spread the word!
Our first order of commemorative bricks arrived in October. The
old walkway was taken up, bricks cleaned and reset together with
the new ones. Please come take some time to read the bricks. They
provide such a memorable reflection on both the past and present,
contributed by our members, neighbors and friends. Bishop Hays Rockwell
presided over a short dedication ceremony on November 1st, followed
by an al fresco chowder lunch enjoyed by all. This is an on-going
project so please keep your brick orders coming. How about giving
a brick as a gift? We will provide a very nice gift certificate.
Call us.
As of September 30, 2009, St. John's is operating in the black!
Our number of pledging members and the dollar amount pledged have
both increased. Fundraising income provided our renovations at the
vicarage and new office. Rental income from the vicarage is a great
financial boon. The Episcopal Diocese of RI is delighted with our
progress. We still face challenges but if these successes continue,
we can reach our goal to hire a part time rector in the near future.
We hope that if you have not contributed in the past you might
consider giving now. For those who have helped, we thank you and
hope we can count on your continued support.
All of us at the Chapel of St. John the Divine wish you and your
family and friends a warm, wonderful Thanksgiving and a joyous holiday
season.
